R&D Engineer "Power Electronics Systems and Control” for Medium Voltage Drives (80 – 100%)

Your role and responsibilities

• Lead engineer of power electronics systems and control focusing on medium-voltage converter platforms used as electrical drives and static frequency converters.
• Research, development and productization of control, modulation and estimation methods for power conversion systems, among them MP3C.
• Lead and participate in R&D projects, generate intellectual property, and support the organization with your systems and control expertise
• Collaborate with ABB's global business units, ABB’s Corporate Research Centers and universities

Qualifications for the role

• MSc or preferably PhD degree in power electronics with strong expertise in converter system aspects and modeling including medium-voltage multilevel converters, electrical machines, drive systems and static frequency converters
• Strong expertise in control theory and applied control methods, particularly modern control formulated in the time domain including model predictive control
• Keen interest in advanced modulation methods for three-phase systems (pulse width modulation, optimized pulse patterns) and mathematical optimization (nonlinear programming)
• Good command of English, German language skills are beneficial but not a necessity
• Strong communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
• Highly motivated, creative and self-organizing team player with the ability to lead projects
